What five eco-friendly home features are on the rise with buyers? Hi, I am Krista Mashore with eXp Realty and The Mashore Group. In a world where there are climate and environmental concerns, more home buyers are searching for eco-friendly homes to help combat these effects and also cut down the costs of utility bills. According to Realtor.com, the growth of green friendly listings has doubled since 2018. Danielle Hale, chief economist at Realtor.com says "The data suggests that consumers' tastes and preferences are leaning in an earth friendly direction with sellers positioning their property to meet those new and growing demands.” So what are the five top eco friendly features on buyer’s checklists? 1) Electric Vehicle Chargers As we see more electric vehicles on the roadways, more properties are equipping their homes with EV charging. Passive Houses Now this may seem like a weird term but a passive house is one that meets a certain standard of energy efficiency. One big feature of this type of home is preventing warm air from escaping your rooms and blocks cold breezes from entering your home. This type of construction is still fairly new but on the rise. Another is Xeriscaping This involves replacing lush green lawns with native plants that do not need much watering therefore cutting down your water costs. Also, Tankless Water Heater We are seeing more properties installing tankless water heaters to help combat high hot water costs. Although upfront expenses are high for this type of water heater, the savings down the road are what buyers are looking for. And finally, Solar. Solar is still the number one energy efficient feature buyers look for in their home search. In fact, according to Zillow, homes with solar energy systems sold for 4.1% more on average than comparable homes without solar power. So if you are a buyer looking for the perfect eco friendly home, please reach out to my team and I so we can begin the search. And sellers, if you are in the market to sell, remember your eco-friendly energy items in your home can help you with the return on your investment.
